Beerus (Dragon Ball Z)

A god inspired by Egyptian mythology

Physically, Beerus looks like a purple cat, dressed in blue and with yellow eyes. His character is inspired by the Cornish rex, a breed of cat native to the United Kingdom that is distinguished by a soft and very short coat, of which Akira Toriyama (writer and illustrator of the Dragon Ball saga) had a descendant. Beerus is obviously also inspired by the Egyptian gods, probably Anubis or Set, who had (unlike Beerus) a jackal head, but like him a hybrid representation (half human and half animal), big ears, a long tail and an ousekh” necklace. Beerus is also reminiscent of the goddess Bastet, who was represented with many gold jewels and in her cat form completely. His figurine represents him ready to strike his worst blows with a snap of his fingers.

A capricious and very powerful god

Beerus is the god of destruction of the 7th universe (the human one) in the Dragon Ball saga. However, he does not come from the planet Earth but from a planet of the same universe which bears his name. After 39 years of sleep in his palace, Beerus is awakened by Whis, who is both his advisor and his master. Whis tells him that Freezer has been eliminated by a Saiyajin capable of transforming into a Super Saiyajin. Beerus then decides to go in search of the Super Saiyajin God of which he had a premonitory dream during his sleep. Although he is by far the most powerful opponent Son Goku has ever faced, Beerus is an immature and very sensitive character, capable of becoming very violent if he is upset. His childish temperament with his greediness
