A heroine smarter than she looks
Eleanor Shellstrop is one of the heroines of The Good Place. At the beginning of the series, Eleanor dies and lands in what she is told is The Good Place”, which is heaven. She is told she will spend the rest of eternity there, shown her new home, praised for the qualities that got her there, and introduced to her soul mate. Only, there is just one little problem, she has been mistaken for another Eleanor Shellstrop whose personality could not have been more different from hers. And we’ll soon realize that this Eleanor doesn’t really belong in heaven. So, if she wants to stay, she will have to make sure that she blends in with the landscape and she will be helped by her “soul mate”, a professor of ethics and philosophy. But the more time passes, the more things will seem strange to her. In particular the fact that the monk Janyu is Jason, a DJ from Florida who also ended up there by chance, and whose soul mate is Tahani, a young woman who has accomplished great things but whose oversized ego doesn’t really fit in with the atmosphere.
