Pinocchio’s conscience
Jiminy Cricket is an important character in the Disney Studios cartoon Pinocchio, adapted from a 19th century Italian tale. It tells the story of Gepetto, an old toymaker who never had a child. One day, he decides to make a puppet in the image of a child and, before going to bed, makes a wish that Pinocchio, as he named him, becomes a real little boy. The blue fairy hears his wish and gives life to the puppet even if he remains made of wood. She makes a deal with him, telling him that he will become a real boy if he behaves like one. She also assigns him Jiminy, a cricket who had found refuge in the house, to act as a good conscience. But his task will prove difficult because on the first day of school, Pinocchio will be taken in by Big Rascal and Gideon who promise him a more luxurious life. In spite of everything, Jiminy will never stop trying to lead Pinocchio towards the right path. In the end, it pays off and when the blue fairy makes Pinocchio a real boy, Jiminy gets his official medal of awareness.
