Batman as Ebenezer Scrooge (DC Comics)

A grumpy superhero

Funko has portrayed Batman here as Ebenezer Scrooge for their Holiday action figure collection. He is a character from the short story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, which is considered a classic of the period in English-speaking countries. He is a cold and cheap man who hates Christmas and whose attitude will be changed when he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. He is represented here in a blue striped dressing gown over a long old-fashioned nightgown. He wears bat-shaped slippers on his feet and holds in his hand a small candlestick with a handle on the side. Finally, at the level of the head, we find his Batman mask on which is added a cap matching his robe with a pompom at the end.

A dark hero

Batman is probably the most famous and popular of the DC Comics heroes whose story has been most often declined in comics, series, video games or movies. His real name is Bruce Wayne and he is a rich genius who inherited the Wayne mansion from his parents who died when he was younger. Their death left an indelible mark as they were murdered in the street by a man who wanted to rob them. He vowed to avenge them and spent many years training and creating vehicles and technological gadgets. Inspired by the bats that fascinated and frightened him, he became Batman, a masked superhero who came out only at night to hunt down criminals and try to bring justice to Gotham City when the police couldn’t. Batman is very popular for his dark side and his sometimes more violent methods than other heroes. He is also a rather dark and humorless character and many of his scenes take place at night.
