Esmeralda (The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame)

A colorful costume

Esmeralda is shown here playing her tambourine. She wears a long pink skirt with a purple scarf on one hip as well as a green half corset and a white blouse with wide sleeves revealing her shoulders. She is barefoot and wears golden rings on her ears, on one arm and one ankle. Finally, her long, voluminous black hair is held back by a bright pink scarf hanging down her back.

The object of all the passions

Esmeralda is one of the central characters of the animated film The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Disney Studios, obviously quite freely adapted from the novel Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo. Esmeralda is a bohemian woman living in Paris in the Middle Ages and earning her living through music and dance. One day, pursued by the guard, she takes refuge in the cathedral. There she meets Quasimodo, the young hunchbacked boy living in the heights of the towers, and becomes friends with him. But she also meets Frollo, Quasimodo’s adoptive father and archdeacon of the cathedral, and Phoebus, captain of the guard. The three men fall in love with her. But while Phoebus’ feelings are reciprocated and Quasimodo accepts that she will only ever be his friend, Frollo sees in her the demon of temptation and will do anything to destroy her.
