Gandalf le Gris (Le Hobbit)

From Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White

On this figurine it is the Gandalf of the movies The Hobbit” which is represented. Indeed in this trilogy and in the first film of The Lord of the Rings, Gandalf is called among other things “Gandalf the Grey” or “The Grey Pilgrim” in reference to the gray dress he wears. The creators of the figurine did not forget to represent the gray scarf he wears over it (in the movie and in the novel) as well as the brown belt. If he does not appear particularly impressive in this outfit (except for his great size), he is still a great magician, so he is represented with his famous staff very faithful to the one in the movie and visibly practicing an incantation. On the other hand, if this figurine is once again very faithful to the character of the movie “The Hobbit”, it seems that as for the head, Funko chose to represent him with the look he has when he returns in “The Two Towers” as “Gandalf the White” after having defeated the Balrog. Indeed, it is not the curly grey hair and long grey beard of the Hobbit that he wears on this figure but the smooth white hair and neat white beard of Gandalf the White. Moreover, like the Gandalf the White character (or perhaps for purely practical reasons), he will be represented without his famous pointed hat.

The great enemy of Sauron

Gandalf appears for the first time in the novel of J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit” then in the very famous trilogy “The Lord of the Rings”. In the cinema it will be the opposite and it will be only after the incredible success of the first trilogy that Peter Jackson will direct more than 10 years after the trilogy “The Hobbit”. Gandalf is one of the 5 known members of the race of mages (with Saruman, Radagast, Allatar and Palando) sent to Middle-earth to fight Sauron and he will finally be the only one to fulfill his mission. In The Hobbit, played by Ian McKellen, he convinces the dwarf Thorin Oakenshield to go and challenge the dragon Smaug to take back his throne in Erebor. They will be helped by a company of dwarves and Bilbo the Hobbit, who will prove to be much more useful than he first appeared. Later in The Lord of the Rings, he will discover that the ring Bilbo found during his journey is the ring of Sauron. And when Bilbo bequeaths this ring to young Frodo, Gandalf commits to helping him bring the ring to Mordor to be destroyed. He will also commit himself to the human kings in the war that will start at that time between Mordor and the rest of Middle Earth.
