Iron Throne (Game Of Thrones)

A sharp object

This figure was released exclusively at the 2015 New York comic con. It is a super sized pop measuring about 15 cm instead of the usual 10 cm. The seat is deliberately low enough, flat and wide enough to place another pop figure, depending on who seems to deserve this place! On the backrest, we find these numerous swords placed in fan. Closer to the seat, we can see different pommels and the blades are then folded to follow the shape of the seat. We can also see many pommels forming the armrests and reinforcing the bottom of the throne. This silver gray metal figure is nicely detailed. The aged metal look is nicely reproduced, we just regret that the sharp and dangerous aspect of this throne, as it is often described in the novels, is not more visible on this figure.

The famous Iron Throne

The Iron Throne is an important object in the famous medieval fantasy series Game Of Thrones adapted from George Martin’s novels: A Song Of Ice And Fire. Most of the action takes place on the continent of Westeros. At the beginning of the series, the king is Robert Baratheon married to Queen Cersei Lannister. After the suspicious death of the king’s hand (a kind of prime minister), the king asks his old friend Ned Stark, lord of the North and Winterfell, to come and replace him. He accepts and will take the opportunity to investigate the death of the previous hand of the king, a friend of his and the husband of his wife’s sister. He will quickly discover big secrets about the queen and her brother. Events will quickly unfold and this will lead to a war between the great families of Westeros who will fight to take power while the Lannisters will do everything to keep it. The Iron Throne is an impressive and very symbolic object in the series. It was built by Aegon 1, one of the ancient kings of the Targaryen dynasty and is made of 1000 swords of his defeated enemies. It was forged with the fire of the dragon Balerion, as the Targaryens had the power to control them at the time. Since then, the Targaryens had lost this power and the dragons were thought to be extinct. But across the sea, Daenerys Targaryen, the last heir of this dynasty has hatched three dragon eggs and is determined to take back the throne. It is said that the swords in it are still sharp as a reminder that one should never feel comfortable on the throne.
