Venus Williams is an American professional tennis player born in 1980 in Lynwood, California. She spent her childhood in the sensitive neighborhood of Compton, California before moving to Palm Springs at the age of 11 so that she and her sister could join a tennis academy, both girls already showing extraordinary talent. She is the older sister of Serena, who has also made her mark in the sport. They have often played doubles or against each other. Venus holds many records or firsts in the sport. She is the first non-seeded player to reach the US Open final at age 17 and the only player (men and women combined) to win titles in four different Olympics. She holds forty-nine titles and is the first black woman to reach number one in the rankings. She also holds the absolute record of participation in the Grand Slam tournament. Beyond tennis, she is also a great advocate for social justice and has helped change the tennis world.
