Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly)

The Space Cowboy

Although Malcolm Reynolds is, anyway, always dressed the same way, Funko was probably inspired by the few existing promo photos of this series. Throughout the series, Mal has a style completely inspired by the wild west. We find this high-waisted beige pants worn with suspenders on a brown shirt. As always, he wears high brown leather boots over his pants. To complete his look, we find well this brown leather coat and the matching gloves. Where we can realize that we are in the future and not in the past, is when we look at his gun. Up close you can see that she is more complex than she looks. With its golden color, it gives it a little steampunk side. The weapon and the holster on her belt are very finely reproduced by Funko. Finally, his face is quite classic but we still recognize the characteristic haircut of the character.

The Captain of the ship

The Captain Malcolm Reynolds is one of the main characters of the series Firefly”. This series was created by Joss Whedon in 2002, and although it was canceled after only 14 episodes, it is considered a cult for many fans. A few years later, it was given the right to a TV movie that gave a conclusion to the story. The series takes place several hundred years in the future. The Earth being overpopulated, many populations have left it to live on other planets terraformed to accommodate human life. After a long lost war of independence, the galaxy is ruled by the Alliance. The series focuses on the life of the crew of a ship, the Serenity, living from more or less legal activities: transporting passengers, burglaries, etc. … What made this series so cult is its clever mix of science fiction, action, western atmosphere and this particular humor so characteristic of the series of Joss Whedon. Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds is the captain of this ship. He was in the army, on the side of the Independents, during the war and named his ship after the battle that turned the war around. Although he likes to pass for a ruthless man, he is in fact a rather good and generous man, very attached to his crew, especially to Zoe, his first mate, with whom he fought during the war.
