A tragic end
Gollum is a central character of the literary and cinematographic trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Gollum was originally a Hobbit. When he found the ring, he was immediately corrupted by its power and banished from his village for killing his friend, but the ring also extended his life indefinitely. He lost the ring in a challenge with the hobbit Bilbo who became its new master. This also prolonged his life but he managed to remain surprisingly immune to the evil in it. At the age of 111, he decided to leave it to his nephew Frodo and retire to the elves. Frodo will then find himself with the heavy task of destroying the ring for good in Mount Doom and it is there that he will cross the path of Gollum. This one will be his guide during a time, torn between the desire to recover the ring and that to sincerely help Frodo. Finally, as Frodo is about to throw the ring into the lava, Gollum manages to take it and put it on. A battle ensues and Gollum finally falls into the lava with the ring, ending Frodo’s mission.
